Bomet: School Girl Gives Birth in Pit Latrine, Baby Rescued

A shocking incident unfolded at Koiyet Secondary School in Bomet County on Monday morning after a Form Four student gave birth in a pit latrine before proceeding to class as if nothing had happened.

According to Chepalungu sub-county police boss Phanton Analo, the school principal reported the case after the 19-year-old student was seen bleeding excessively while seated in class. Concerned classmates alerted the teacher on duty, who quickly intervened.

Investigations revealed that the student had delivered the baby in the school toilet and attempted to conceal the birth. The school administration, with the help of members of the public, mobilized efforts to retrieve the infant from the latrine.

Both the student and her newborn were rushed to Sigor Sub-County Hospital for emergency medical attention before being transferred to Longisa County Hospital for specialized care.

Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, as well as the student’s mental and emotional well-being. The case has sparked debate on the need for better reproductive health education and support systems for teenage mothers in schools.

More updates to follow as the investigation unfolds.
