Bees Disrupt Rescue Efforts at Machakos Accident Scene
Machakos County witnessed a bizarre incident on Sunday when a swarm of bees disrupted rescue efforts at an accident scene along the Kathiani-Machakos road. The incident occurred after a 14-seater matatu overturned at Kwa Kakonzi corner, near Iveti Hills.
According to eyewitnesses, Good Samaritans and firefighters who rushed to rescue the passengers were forced to retreat as the aggressive bees attacked indiscriminately. The unexpected invasion created panic, delaying the evacuation process.
Firefighters from Machakos County had to employ unconventional tactics to regain control of the situation. Using hosepipe water, they sprayed the area to scatter the insects, allowing rescuers to access the wreckage safely.
Senior Chief of Mumbuni Location, Mathew Mulee, confirmed the incident, stating that the matatu lost control at a sharp corner, veered off the road, struck a tree, and overturned. Fortunately, all passengers survived with only minor injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
“The vehicle veered off the road at the sharp corner section, then hit a tree and overturned. The passengers sustained only minor injuries and were taken to hospital,” said Mulee.
He further noted that while the rescue efforts were temporarily hampered by the bee attack, no additional injuries resulted from the incident.
The occurrence left residents baffled, with some attributing it to nature’s mysterious ways, while others saw it as a sign of the need for extra caution on the accident-prone stretch of the road. Authorities have since cautioned motorists to drive carefully, especially on sharp corners known to be hazardous.
The unusual combination of an accident and a bee invasion made for an unforgettable scene, highlighting the unpredictable nature of emergencies.
