Babu Owino Alleges Plot to Arrest Him for Defying Government: “I Refused to Be Bought”
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has sensationally claimed that the government is planning to arrest him in a bid to silence his growing influence. The outspoken legislator insists that his refusal to align with the ruling administration’s broad-based government agenda has made him a target for intimidation.
Babu Owino Speaks Out on Alleged Political Witch Hunt
In a video shared on his social media platforms, Babu revealed that government operatives have repeatedly attempted to convince him to cooperate with them, but he has remained firm in his stand. He claims that his rejection of these offers has triggered plans to have him arrested under dubious circumstances.
“They have approached me on several occasions, urging me to work with the government, but I refused. I made it clear that I want to work for Kenyans,” Babu stated.
He further emphasized that his opposition is rooted in the government’s failure to fulfill its campaign promises, particularly in addressing the high cost of living, taxation, healthcare, and education.
EACC Allegedly Plotting a Raid on Babu’s Offices
Babu Owino claims to have received credible intelligence that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is planning to raid his offices at Greenspan Mall in Donholm in the coming weeks. He believes this move is meant to tarnish his reputation.
“The Auditor General’s report on all 290 constituencies was clear, and it was independent. Why does the government want to misuse EACC to intimidate me?” he questioned.
The MP warned the EACC against being used as a political tool, emphasizing that all projects in his constituency have followed due procurement processes with full transparency.
“I Did Not Come to Nairobi to Steal Money”
Despite the alleged threats, Babu remains unfazed, stating that he has faced similar intimidation before and emerged stronger.
“You want to tarnish the name of the best MP in the country. Let me remind you, my mother did not give birth to a thief. I did not come to Nairobi to steal money,” he declared defiantly.
His primary focus, he said, remains on serving his constituents, particularly in improving education and livelihoods.
Babu Owino Skips Ruto’s Nairobi Tour, Sparks Speculation
Babu Owino was noticeably absent during President William Ruto’s recent Nairobi tour, which began on March 10. Several ODM legislators attended, signaling a potential shift in political alliances, but Babu, alongside Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi, chose to stay away.
Their absence has fueled speculation of internal rifts within ODM, particularly after Raila Odinga endorsed Governor Johnson Sakaja for a second term—clashing with Babu and Wanyonyi’s rumored ambitions for the Nairobi governorship.
Defiant Babu Owino: “I Will Not Be Silenced”
The legislator remains adamant that no amount of intimidation will force him into submission.
“I was elected to work, and I think independently. I will not be coerced and won’t suspend my brains to support any individual blindly. Some people can be pressured, but I am not one of them,” he affirmed.
As political temperatures continue to rise, all eyes remain on Babu Owino to see whether the government will act on the allegations or if this will be another episode of high-stakes political maneuvering.
