Two suspects arrested over fatal stabbing of shoe trader Paul Mwangangi near Kariokor Market

Detectives have arrested two men in Kayole and recovered a bloodstained Maasai sword after a shoe trader was stabbed to death along Landhies Road in Nairobi on October 12.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a shoe trader near Kariokor Market in Nairobi, police said, following intelligence-led operations that recovered a suspected murder weapon.

Paul Mwangangi was stabbed along Landhies Road, opposite the Muthurwa Market footbridge in Nairobi County, on October 12, 2026. Officers who arrived at the scene found him lying face down with a fresh stab wound to the chest.

Crime Scene Investigation detectives processed and documented the scene. The body was later moved to the City Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Acting on intelligence, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Central and Kamukunji units, working with the Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Office, traced the suspects to a hideout in Kayole. The two men, identified as Joseph Kimani Ndungu, also known as Bajong, and Peter Kimani Githinji, also known as Denoo, were arrested and escorted to Kamukunji Police Station. They remain in custody pending further investigations and arraignment.

During the operation, officers recovered a Maasai sword bearing bloodstains. The weapon has been secured as an exhibit and will undergo forensic examination.

The DCI expressed condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Paul Mwangangi and reaffirmed its commitment to pursue all leads and bring those responsible to justice.

The killing occurred in a busy commercial area frequented by traders and shoppers. Landhies Road and the neighbouring Kariokor and Muthurwa markets form part of Nairobi’s dense informal trading zone, where security concerns regularly affect small-scale businesses.

No further details on the motive or the exact circumstances leading to the arrest have been released.
