Kenya Met Forecasts Warm Weather in Nairobi, Nakuru and Other Regions Over Next Five Days

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast sunny and dry conditions across much of the country between September 12 and 16, with occasional rainfall expected in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley—including Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, and Murang’a—temperatures are projected to range between 6°C and 30°C. Residents can expect cloudy mornings giving way to sunny intervals, with light afternoon showers possible in some areas.

“Most parts of the country are likely to be sunny and dry. However, rainfall is expected in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley,” the department said in a statement.

In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, including Kisumu, Kakamega, Bungoma, Nakuru, and Kericho, scattered morning rains will be followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to reach about 30°C, while minimums could drop to 9°C.

North-western counties such as Turkana and Samburu will remain mostly sunny, though occasional showers are possible. Daytime highs may reach 36°C, with nighttime lows falling to about 7°C.

In North-eastern Kenya—covering Marsabit, Wajir, Mandera, Garissa, and Isiolo—conditions will stay hot and dry, with temperatures peaking at 38°C and dipping to around 14°C at night.

The South-eastern lowlands, including Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, and Kajiado, will experience mainly sunny conditions, with temperatures ranging from 9°C to 32°C.

Along the Coast—in Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale—sunny days and partly cloudy nights will prevail. Daytime highs are forecast at 32°C, with minimum temperatures around 21°C.

The Meteorological Department has also warned of strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots in coastal areas, the South-eastern lowlands, and parts of northern Kenya.

Residents are advised to monitor daily county-specific updates and prepare for localized showers and strong winds in affected regions.
