Police Reservist Among Four Killed in Samburu West Attack as Security Agencies Launch Manhunt

A National Police Reservist (NPR) was among four people killed in a pre-dawn attack in Loosuk, Samburu County, as security agencies launched a manhunt for heavily armed gunmen who carried out the raid.

The attackers struck in the early hours of Saturday, opening fire before escaping into nearby bushes, according to Samburu County Police Commander John Mwai.

Authorities have withheld the identities of the victims until their families are formally notified.

Police said additional security personnel have since been deployed to Loosuk to reinforce operations as officers intensify the search for those behind the deadly attack.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The latest attack comes just days after Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen visited the area for a series of security meetings prompted by renewed reports of insecurity.

Murkomen held the engagements after receiving reports of security concerns during his recent assessment tour focused on security and public service delivery.

Addressing local elders, the Cabinet Secretary acknowledged that attacks often intensify when security agencies increase pressure on criminal gangs but insisted that the government’s operations would continue until lasting peace is restored.

“I want to assure you that this is the beginning of the end. It is always darkest before dawn. I want to promise you that we will end this menace through sustained intelligence-led operations. We will continue these operations until the job is done,” Murkomen said.

He also appealed to community elders to continue guiding young people and working closely with parents to discourage criminal activities while promoting peaceful coexistence.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja attended the meeting alongside other security officials.

Police said Loosuk is among areas currently covered by an ongoing security operation targeting banditry and armed criminal gangs.

According to security agencies, the sustained crackdown has contributed to a reduction in such attacks in recent days, although investigations into Saturday’s killings continue as officers pursue those responsible.
