KUCCPS Issues Urgent Warning as Fake Transfer Applications Target Students

Students seeking university and college placements have been urged to remain vigilant after the Kenya University and College Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) and the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) warned of a surge in scams targeting applicants just days after placement results were released.

In separate notices issued on Saturday, July 11, the two institutions cautioned students, parents and guardians against fraudsters posing as officials and promising admission-related services in exchange for money.

KUCCPS says transfer applications have not started

KUCCPS dismissed claims circulating online that inter-institutional transfer applications are underway, clarifying that the process has not yet opened.

The placement agency revealed that scammers are misleading students through a WhatsApp group offering to facilitate transfers for a fee.

According to KUCCPS, the fraudsters are demanding KSh600 as a service charge and an additional KSh1,000 to allegedly fast-track inter-institutional transfer applications.

The same group is also advertising first-time Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) account creation services, another offer KUCCPS warned students to avoid.

“Disclaimer! Students, parents, and the general public are advised that KUCCPS has NOT started receiving inter-institutional transfer applications,” KUCCPS said in the notice.

“Application dates will be announced soon through this X Page, the KUCCPS website, and the Student Portal. Beware of false and misleading information. Do not fall victim to online scammers!”

KUCCPS stressed that all updates regarding transfer applications will only be communicated through its official website, Student Portal and verified social media platforms.

KMTC exposes fake admission offers

Meanwhile, KMTC also raised the alarm over fraudsters impersonating the institution as they attempt to lure applicants with fake admission promises.

The college said several fake Facebook pages claiming to represent its Chief Executive Officer, Dr Kelly Oluoch, have emerged online.

The institution warned that scammers are falsely claiming applications for the September 2026 intake are open despite the application portal remaining closed.

KMTC reiterated that no admissions are currently being processed through the KUCCPS portal and cautioned applicants against anyone claiming they can secure admission letters.

“Conmen are out here trying to swindle unsuspecting members of the public in the name of securing KMTC admissions,” KMTC relayed.

“Please note that the KUCCPS portal for the September 2026 intake is still closed. We will notify you through official channels once it opens. Anyone claiming to issue you with an admission letter at this stage is conning you. Stay alert. Use official KMTC communication channels only.”

Students urged to verify information

The twin warnings come as thousands of students begin planning their next steps after receiving university and college placement results.

Authorities are advising applicants to ignore unofficial messages requesting payments for admissions, transfers or HELB services and instead verify every announcement through official KUCCPS and KMTC communication channels.

Students are also encouraged to report suspicious accounts and avoid sharing personal information or making payments to individuals claiming they can influence admissions or placement processes.
