‘Take It Offline’: Babu Owino Tells Caleb Amisi After Linda Mwananchi Row
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has responded firmly to Saboti MP Caleb Amisi’s sustained criticism of the Linda Mwananchi movement, urging his fellow legislator to resolve disagreements behind closed doors instead of airing them publicly.
Babu’s response follows Amisi’s renewed attacks on the opposition-leaning outfit, in which he argued that the movement had drifted from its founding purpose and was increasingly aligning itself with the same political establishment it was created to challenge.
The Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful defended the movement’s leadership, insisting its focus remains on championing the interests of ordinary Kenyans. He said differences among leaders should be handled through established internal channels rather than on social media or in public forums.
Describing Amisi as “my brother”, Babu said the Saboti MP was taking his concerns to the wrong audience and should instead engage directly with fellow leaders.
“About my brother Caleb, he knows how to solve issues. He is a leader. When he has concerns, he should call leaders and we sit down. We don’t want to see such matters on the internet and every other place. He is addressing the wrong people,” Babu said.
He argued that public disputes only divert attention from the movement’s mission and weaken efforts to pursue reforms.
Babu also stressed that Linda Mwananchi must remain united if it is to continue advancing the interests of Kenyans. He warned against remarks that could damage the movement, saying its leadership should remain focused on building unity among those committed to its objectives.
“So, people of Linda Mwananchi, sisi we do not accept any nonsensical statements against Linda Mwananchi. Linda Mwananchi must remain strong. If we must unite, we will have to unite with those who matter for us to fight for the interests of Kenya,” he observed.
The exchange comes after Amisi explained that Linda Mwananchi was conceived as an issue-driven platform in response to growing public dissatisfaction with the country’s political leadership, rather than as a movement targeting specific individuals.
He also said the initiative was designed to provide a political home for emerging leaders while helping shape future leadership transitions. Referring to recent political rallies, Amisi argued they reflected a growing public appetite for alternative leadership, highlighting the differing views that continue to emerge within the movement.
