38 Arrested as Police Disperse Protesters at Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu
Tensions flared at Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu on Sunday, leading to the arrest of 38 individuals as police cracked down on a planned protest against the church’s recent acceptance of a Sh20 million donation from President William Ruto.
A heavy police presence was deployed to the church amid online mobilization under the hashtag #OccupyJesusWinner, with demonstrators expressing discontent over the donation. Authorities moved swiftly to disperse the group, with some protesters being forcibly removed from the premises. Witnesses reported that a number of the detained youths were roughed up and beaten by police before being taken into custody.
Bishop Edward Mwai addressed the matter during the church service, alleging that unnamed individuals had orchestrated the demonstrations and manipulated young people into participating in the protests.
“People I know very well used them and even sent some here today. Someday, they will know there is God’s presence at this altar. May God forgive our children who are being used in such a manner,” Bishop Mwai stated.
Despite the confrontations, the bishop urged his congregation to remain peaceful, emphasizing that the church does not condone violence. He also declared that he had personally forgiven those who had insulted him over the donation, leaving the matter to divine judgment.
The 38 individuals arrested at the scene were taken to Kasarani Police Station for questioning. Law enforcement officials indicated that investigations were ongoing to determine the extent of their involvement in the attempted occupation of the church.
As debate over the church’s financial dealings continues, authorities remain on high alert, monitoring potential unrest to prevent further disruptions.
