Waiguru Speaks About Ruto’s Running Mate, Sends Ngirici A Message Over Elections

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has downplayed allegations that Deputy by President William Ruto has settled on Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki as his running mate ahead of the August polls.

According to the first term governor, those are just assumptions as the last decision will be made by Ruto and he will make his choice public.

Speaking in Kirinyaga on Thursday after meeting all the candidates who won UDA nominations, in bid to plan how they will hit the ground to campaign for themselves and for Ruto’s presidential bid, Waiguru said it would be an honour if Ruto chooses her as his running mate.

She added that her name being fronted by Kenya Kwanza Alliance supporters even outside Mount Kenya Region shows that people are confident of her leadership, and she would proudly assume the position if the DP settles on her.

“The choice of a running mate is in the hands of the DP. I have seen my name in the talks among others, and it would be a great honour if Ruto chooses me. We are so many in Kenya and if people talk about you positively, that means you are on the right track,” said Waiguru.

She urged her main rival, Kirinyaga’s Woman Rep Wangui Ngirici who has been campaigning for the last three weeks when the UDA party was focused on its nominations, that she should brace for a tough race as the UDA camp will be traversing the county to sell their agenda.

“We have planned on how to carry our campaigns and ensure we have over 95 per cent turn out in August, and also 95 per cent of votes to Ruto. Those who have been campaigning alone, we want to tell them UDA is here,” she added.
